Hello, my name is Mrs. Schmieding-Chavez, I look forward to an exciting, productive and fun school year. I am excited to work with Ember Hansen and Amy Eiffert to create a positive learning environment for all our students. I had a terrific experience in Physical Education from first grade through high school and want my students to have the same feelings of success and accomplishment from our program here at Pomolita.
In my 27 years with the district, I have worked at both the Elementary and Secondary levels. When I first arrived in the district I taught Science, Physical Education at Ukiah High School and also served as the schools Athletic Trainer. Several years ago I served as an Elementary Physical Education Coordinator along with Ember Hansen. Most of my time has been spent here at Pomolita where I have taught Physical Education, Science and Leadership, as well as coached basketball, softball and track & field.
I attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. I was also able to complete my teaching certification and serve as a student athletic trainer for the athletic department. I then immediately headed to the Midwest, where I attended Indiana University where I earned a Master of Science degree in Physical Education with a specialization in Athletic Training and completed the requirements to become a certified athletic trainer. My teaching career began at Columbus College in Columbus, Georgia where I served as an Assistant Professor in Physical Education and Head Athletic Trainer. I remained there for 6 and a half years, and the desire to return to the west coast brought me here to Ukiah.
I love sports (participating and spectating), staying active, traveling and enjoying time with my husband, Joe, daughter Ericka and our three dogs, BeBe, Romeo and Pauly. GO DUCKS!
